About us
The Metaphorical Internet is a metaphor for a world of ideas both real and imagined.
The Metaphorical Internet is a world of ideas. Metaphor itself has value and can be used as a “currency” as concepts are born and beliefs are formed. Ultimately metaphor is a free system that does not rely on technology and has been around as long as human consciousness.
I first coined the term The Metaphorical Internet in my first work of literature – The Librarian’s Accounting Museum Version 1.0 – back in 2015. That “short” read is the “Bible” of modern metaphor as can be picked up for a reasonable price on Amazon here. Recently with changes on social media and Facebook rebranding as Meta with its accompanying “metaverse,” the concept of a Metaphorical Internet has grabbed the world’s attention. The difference is that the metaverse is technology based and the age old concept of metaphor is not.
From birds on the wing to a hot dinner, ideas populate our reality as fast-evolving citizens of the Greater Universe. And the beginnings of the modern conversation on metaphor that began with Freud and Jung has changed dramatically into a post-tech soup of ideas. Psychology and spirituality are the science, and its darker companion, metaphysics, that drive research and use of metaphor in today’s, strangely unforgiving 21st Century daily-life. Metaphor, if we are brave enough to implement it – personally and as a “World of Ideas” – will restructure society and the balance of norms going forward into a far-from-known endgame and human (or desperately post-human) future.
Ultimately all stories are metaphors waiting to happen and each of us has a story to tell. So go out and tell yours.
